Interview with the author of The Subconscious Diet, Hugh B. Sanders
Q. What is your book about and why should people want to read it?
A. The Subconscious Diet is unusual because it does not talk about food or exercise! It explains the
causes of over eating and how to change these habits. My goal is to disclose the missing 2/3 of the
process that is never discussed by the diet experts.
Q. What is the missing 2/3’s?
A. Traditional diet books focus on one aspect of formula, food! That is not the basis of the problem, I
offer a step by step Success Guide to re-write the negative programs running in a person’s mind.
These thoughts act like viruses* in a computer and are the real cause of over eating.
*(Viruses - Something that poisons the mind or soul - 3: Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary)
Q. What are these programs?
A. To name a few, they are Anger, Hurt, and Guilt. These emotions, which are another name for
programs, take up space in and disrupt the part of the mind that controls success.
Q. How would you summarize the book?
A. I think the sub title does it best:
It’s not what you put in your mouth; it is what you put in your mind!
Q. Why haven’t other authors written about this part of the diet
process?
A. Even though many books have been written about the individual components discussed in
The Subconscious Diet. Most diet books have been written by MD’s and Medical Specialists in
general, who until recently have been suspicious about any approach except pills and surgery.
Q. Aren’t there some other authors that don’t write only about the
medical aspects of diet?
A. Yes, however they still talk about food. Mostly substitution, rotation and combinations that are
very complicated and difficult for the average person to remember and impossible to find in
restaurants and fast food stores, where many working people eat these days.
Q. You are not a MD or diet specialist, why would your approach
be better for most people?
A. Most people are not sick, physically or mentally, they do not need medical advice. What they
desperately need is a plan to achieve success. I have been teaching and studying techniques for
achieving dreams / goals for over thirty years.
Q. What are the steps?
A. The Subconscious Diet is simple and complete. The five steps are:
1. Getting a support group of your friends.
2. Eliminating the distractions (viruses) Anger, Hurt and Guilt
3. Forgiving others and yourself, to stop the energy drain.
4. Affirmations which are the only language of change your subconscious mind accepts.
5. Visualization which energizes the subconscious mind to make the changes.
Q. Why is having a group of friends helping with your diet important?
A. No one accomplishes much by themselves, more importantly if your associates don’t know what
you are trying to accomplish, they could sabotage your effort with thoughtless negative comments.
Q. Why would forgiveness be important to a diet?
A. Holding on to Anger, Hurt and Guilt uses up tremendous amounts of mental energy. That energy is
needed to make any change you want in your life. One of the biggest complaints people have
these days it being tired all the time.
Q. How do Affirmations work with a diet?
(Affirmation: a positive statement repeated until it is believed.)
A. Affirmations over write the negative programs (viruses) that slip into everyone’s mind from TV, the
news and associates' careless comments. It is a problem that needs constant maintenance.
Q. You say visualizations energize the subconscious mind, how?
A. Visualizations or guided imagery, starting with the end in mind as Steven R. Covey states in his
book "The 8th. Habit", presents your mind with a vivid picture of the dream / goal you want to
accomplish. The more real you make your thoughts the faster they take on reality.
Q. Has The Subconscious Diet worked for you?
A. Yes, I have lost thirty pounds in six months.
Q. Can others accomplish that kind of results?
A. The tools are presented, if a person chooses to use them it will work for most people. A study cited
in The Subconscious Diet stated that for ninety-five percent of people over weight there was no
medical reason. I believe these people need a way to change their mind set and then they will
achieve success in any dream / goal they set for themselves.

What People Are Saying About The Subconscious Diet:
“Here is a diet book that does not talk about food or exercise! It explains the causes of over eating and how to change these habits. Written by a success trainer, Mr. Sanders discloses the missing two-thirds of the process that is never discussed by the diet experts.”
Diane Berry, Ph.D., Yale University School of Nursing
“You have a great 'voice’, I could not quit reading the work until I finished it. The writing was as if we were sharing coffee at Starbucks and were enthusiastically sharing ideas. The work is so much more than a mere diet plan it is a 'life' plan with immediate benefits and the dissipation of those nasty self doubt failure programs that we insist on cultivating. Wow!”
Hugh Rice., Corporate Trainer, Covina, CA
“Hugh’s book illustrates the principles I have always thought to be the most important steps to the achievement of any goal. Congruence between thought, word and deed are the three legs of a triangle pointing to success.”
John Abdo (I’m a DOER!TM) Authority on motivation, health and fitness.
Book Review of The Subconscious Diet:
It’s not what you put in your mouth; it is what you put in your mind!
(Not hypnosis.)
Publisher: Liberation Press
There are more diet books on the market than anyone can keep track of. A recent study by Pennsylvania University announced officially that traditional diets don’t work for most people and that the people who do lose some excess weight gain it back within a year. It is well past time for a change in the way we approach the process of dieting.
The flaw in most diet plans is that they are written by specialists, people who are very knowledgeable but who focus on one or two fields. For this reason diet books generally only talk about food: how much, what kind, what combination or when it is eaten. Life doesn’t come with one problem neatly separated from the rest. It is essential that all of the factors affecting an individual are considered.
For many people, the problem is not the meals they eat, it is all the snacks, candy and soft drinks that are consumed for reasons other than hunger. A diet won’t work if it doesn’t address the reasons people turn to food when they are not hungry. People eat to reduce many negative emotions that are eating at them. The Subconscious Diet provides options to reduce this stress, instead of food.
Mr. Sanders offers very convincing reasons why the body will not change until the mind has changed. He states: “The subconscious mind is the super computer of the brain. Each person has the power to change the way they react to any event in their life. The habits of thought are like a computer’s operating system and thoughts do shape reality.” He shares his five step plan for change and seventeen page “Success Guide” that will help any person achieve healthy life-long weight control.
Hugh B. Sanders has spent thirty years as a sales / success trainer for some of the largest corporations in America. The Subconscious Diet shows that diets are not different from any other success plan or goal. Diets should be approached with the same time proven steps for success used by award winning athletes and professionals in any field. Mr. Sanders states: “You can succeed with your diet or any other goal if you know and use the rules for success.”
He contends that we need to take control of our emotions, eliminate stress, fear, hate, and guilt, then harness and direct the tremendous power of our subconscious mind. Traditional diet formats fail because they require you to take “short term” steps that your mind is not ready to implement on a “long term” basis.
This is a small book, 120 pages and is specifically designed to get to the point. It is perfect for today’s busy people who don’t want to read another three hundred page text book. The book contains many quotes from notable people of the past and present that will help keep the reader on track and motivated. The “Success Guide” is just as easy to use as the book is to read.
For people who are more comfortable using one of the current diet plans as a reference for the food component, The Subconscious Diet will be an ideal “companion book” to address the missing emotional and habit factors that complete any life long “eating” plan. This book will increase the probability of achieving success in shedding excess weight no matter what plan you have been using.
The Subconscious Diet (It’s not what you put in your mouth; it is what you put in your mind!) can be ordered from Liberation Press. The price for the book is $12.95 or the e-book can be down loaded for only $9.95. The first chapter can be read on the web at no cost.
